AG Solar is proud to have completed what we understand to be one of the first solar and battery installations under the NSW Government’s new Home Energy Saver program.
The project was completed for a local family of four in the Sutherland Shire. They had originally planned to install rooftop solar only, but the launch of the Home Energy Saver program gave them the opportunity to take the next step and add a home battery as well.
With access to the program through Brighte, the family was able to install a complete Sigenergy solar and battery system with lower upfront costs.
For this family, it meant they did not have to choose between installing solar now and waiting several years to add battery storage. They could start enjoying the benefits of a full home energy system from day one.
A last-minute change made possible by a great team
The original solar installation had already been scheduled when the battery was added to the project.
That meant our team had to move quickly to update the design, organise the additional equipment and make sure the installation could still go ahead as planned.
Thanks to the support of our suppliers, including Greentech, we were able to source the Sigenergy battery equipment at short notice.
Our office team, designers and solar installers then worked together to make the change happen.
It was a last-minute upgrade, but the result was exactly what the family had hoped for: a complete solar and battery installation designed to help them use more of their own renewable energy.
A special visit from the NSW Government
The installation also received a special visit from NSW Minister for Energy Penny Sharpe and NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey.
The Ministers visited the Sutherland Shire home to meet the family and see how the NSW Home Energy Saver program had helped them move from a solar-only installation to a complete solar and battery system.
It was a proud moment for the family and the AG Solar team.
The visit was also a great opportunity to show how government programs, local solar installers, finance providers and trusted suppliers such as can work together to make home energy upgrades more accessible for NSW households.
How solar and battery storage can help a family home
With their new Sigenergy solar and battery system, the family can generate clean energy from their rooftop solar panels during the day and store excess power in the battery for later.
Instead of sending all of their unused solar energy back to the grid, they can use more of it in the evening, overnight or when electricity demand is higher.
For a busy family of four, a solar and battery system can help:
Reduce reliance on electricity from the grid
Make better use of excess solar power
Provide more control over household energy use
Reduce exposure to rising electricity prices
Support a cleaner and more sustainable lifestyle
This family is now starting its renewable energy journey with a system designed to support its home for many years to come.
We loved being part of that journey.
What is the NSW Home Energy Saver program?
The NSW Home Energy Saver program has been introduced to help eligible NSW households access energy-saving home upgrades with lower upfront costs.
Eligible homeowners and landlords may be able to access a zero-interest loan of up to $15,000, repayable over a period of up to 10 years.
Eligible home energy upgrades may include:
Rooftop solar panels
Home battery storage
Reverse-cycle air conditioning
Insulation
Switchboard upgrades
Other approved energy-saving improvements
The program can make it easier for eligible households to install solar panels and battery storage together, rather than delaying the battery because of the additional upfront cost.
Eligibility criteria, finance approval and program conditions apply. Homeowners should check the latest information from the NSW Government and Brighte before applying.
